Stars and Sabers Gazette 11
Updates from Los Angeles, how to help, book preorder links, events, and more.
Dear Readers and Supporters,
I (Jendia) am writing this from Los Angeles, my home, where the ongoing fires (especially the Eaton Fire, just up the hill from me, and Palisades Fire to the west) are affecting millions of us on many levels. So many have lost everything. Sadly, there have been lives lost as well. Everyone here knows someone who lost their home or business. If you would like a list of good places to donate and help, this is a start:
The brave firefighters and first responders are doing phenomenal work, and we are so grateful. I have World Central Kitchen in my area...surreal. I fully support their efforts keeping folks fed in disaster zones around the world. Pasadena Humane has also been taking care of fire-injured and misplaced animals. Do see the link above in Pasadena Star News for ideas for places to donate.
My kids and I had to leave for a few days and stay in another area away from smoke, which seeped all through the house. We are back home safe now, with multiple air purifiers running. The smoke has abated, and the firefighters are working hard on containment. I watched an air tanker perform stunning maneuvers from my walk. Today, the Eaton Fire has reached 65% containment. We are not out of the woods, though. Another strong Santa Ana may threaten us next week. We are wary, we have our go bags at the door, and we know what to do. Los Angeles has come together, and seeing everyone helping each other has been so heartening. LA Strong is real.
Meanwhile, I am keeping busy, continuing working on my non-publishing deadlines, as well as readying Stars and Sabers Publishing as we prepare for the February launch of our cross-genre anthology, Of Shadows, Stars, and Sabers. General preorders are live for all formats. Here are some links. But we also have a partnership with a particular U.S. store for a book launch, so see below for more info if you want to preorder from them.

Why Preorder?
Preorders are absolutely pivotal these days, because they signal to the distributor how many books they need to make. The longer the lead time, the better. More preorders also signal to booksellers that this is a worthy title to have in their shops. Your preorders are appreciated!

Our First Solo Author Event!
As we put the finishing touches on Pedro Iniguez's wonderful sci-fi and fantasy collection, Echoes and Embers: Speculative Stories, we are looking ahead to celebrating his publication day on July 15! Soon after that, Pedro has a book event in Monrovia, California at Black Cat Fables. Do stop by and support Pedro!
And read more about Pedro's fabulous collection here:
Preorders will roll out in the next couple of months for Echoes and Embers.
We are CLOSED to Submissions
We may reopen later in the year to literary agents, but currently we are focusing on our announced publishing slate, and the themed anthologies' dates may change.
